Two Great Questions

Do you know what you want to do with your life? This is question I’m sure all of us have heard at some point in our lives. Maybe in school, college, or on the job. But somewhere along the line we stop asking. There comes a point where the question shifts from “What do you want to do” to “Are you doing what you love to do”?

For some this question has been in the back of their minds for years. Today it is not all that uncommon to find people well into their careers and lives and still asking this same question.

Today I offer two simple questions to ask yourself to help you answer this all to common situation.

1. What brings you the most joy?

Think about it for a moment. What is that thing that you cant wait to do? Your heart starts beating fast, there is a sense of fear and wonder all wrapped into one. Is it every-time you cook a new meal, design, paint, teach….. what brings the most joy?

Second Question

2. What brings the most pain?

Not necessarily physical pain. But pain that breaks your heart, that brings tears to your eyes. Injustice that you see in the world and just have to act. Suffering, hunger, cancer, unsafe living conditions, orphan children, lack of clean water…… what brings the tears? What brings the pain?

Now take those two answers and merge them together. There you will find your vision, there you will find the answer to what you want to do with your life.
